BARANGAY AWANG


Brief History

Barangay Awang is a small barangay. It is 2 kilometers from Barangay Igbugo and 11 kilometers from Poblacion.

This barangay drinel its name from a small "awang-awang". This barangay was formerly headed by Nicolas More, Faustino More and Pablo More. In 1942 to 1947 Felipe Factao was the Teniente del Barrio of this barangay.

In 1948 to 1951 it was headed by Maria More and then in 1952 to 1955. It was followed by her brother, Juan Morit and in 1960 to 1971, Adelina Morit, his wife, continued the service to the barangay.

The barangay was lead by Simecroso Morit as the barangay captain. An election then followed where the highest vote shall be the barangay captain and the next higher vote shall be the first barangay kagawad. Walterio Ninal was elected. It is during his administration that a bamboo made barangay hall was constructed so were the barangay chapel and the barangay stage.

The 1994 election was won by Roberto Factao as the Punong Barangay. His administration is responsible for the construction of a bigger barangay hall and the barangay plaza.

William Escamos, the present Punong Barangay won the election in 1997. Various projects such as jetmatic pump was made and the purchases of sprayer and chairs. The Sangguniang Kabataan also repaired the stage and appropriated an amount for the construction of a concrete barangay hall and for the purchase of sports materials.

Electrification of the 28 houses in barangay was materialized in 2002 through the effort of Punong Barangay Willam Escamos.The barangay officials have a vision that the barangay will be linked to Barangay Igbugo via the opening of a barangay road.

  1. To construct infrastructure projects for the water supply system.
  2. To help in the technical aspect of farming.
