BARANGAY GINES

Brief History

Gines in the Naulid Valley is four kilometers from the poblacion along the national highway to Iloilo City.

Its name was derived from brown porous soil in the area called "gines" in the dialect.

For many years before World War II, Gines was headed by Fidel Nabuab. After the war, Nabuab was succeeded by Margarito Carrera (1942-1948) followed by Jesus Dejilla (1949-1950), Teofilo Dejilla (1951-1952), Nicolas Nabuab (1953-1954), Florencio Carrera (1954-1963), Maximo Servento (1964-1967), Federico Nabuab (1968-1971), Ernesto Nabuab (1972-1979), Salvacion Gaitan (1980-1989), Wilson Nabuab (1990-1997). The present Punong Barangay is Jesus Panaguiton (1997-present). For almost six years under the supervision of the Punong Barangay, three waiting sheds were constructed, footwalk for every sitios, streetlights and presently the construction of the two-storey barangay hall.

Barangay Gines is celebrating its Annual Barangay Fiesta every April 27-28.
