The origin of the name of Barangay Lanutan was derived from the abundance of the fiber called LANUT. It was originally called KALANUTAN and later shortened to LANUTAN.
Barangay Lanutan is situated along the national highway 7 kilometers from the poblacion of Miag-ao going south or Antique line and along the shoreline. It is an agricultural barangay with 162.9557 hectares of rolling hills terrain and all of the rice land are rain fed. It has the river that can supply sufficient farm water if impounded during the whole year round. The air view shape of the barangay is like a "stretched leg" that shows the people strength. It has 98 households that composed of 456 inhabitants. The present livelihood consist of 80% farmers and 5% fisherfolks and 15% are employed in various jobs. The actual survey shows that 62% of the total inhabitants are very far below poverty line of income. The existing government building are two barangay halls, one was constructed in 1996 and one in 1998. Other government facilities are basketball court and stage. Adjoining the basketball court is the barangay chapel which usually used for barangay assembly meeting. Six sari-sari stores can be seen in the barangay.
This barangay is situated 1/2 kilometers from Oyungan Elementary School and 1 kilometer from San Rafael National High School. Source of potable water supply are one deep well, 45 closed shallow well and 5 spring water. The barangay has acquired 2 owned handset.
The San Vicente Ice Plant and Storage was also located in the barangay. The residential area is 1/2 kilometer along the national highway and Lanutan shoreline and the rest is an agricultural land.

The Barangay Officials are tasked for the regenerating the character, values, attitudes and work habits of the people towards productive endeavors, organized cooperative for livelihood, institute scholarship program for the poor but deserving sons and daughters, practice bayanihan way of life, increase farm inputs with friendly environment, uphold the principles of justice and fairness and ultimate trust and confidence to the LIFE GIVER. LANUTAN...the pride of her people.
