BARANGAY MATALNGON


Brief History

Barangay Matalngon is 5 kilometers from Barangay Banbanan and 12 kilometers from the Municipality of Miag-ao. Sandwiched by Tumagboc river and Anoy creek. It nestled at the edge of a hill when one has to climb by foot to reach Cadoldolan, Cabalaunan, Onop and the sitios of Anoy and Anilawan. Beyond these two sitios is the territory of Sibalom, Antique.

Matalngon got its name from a Greek word "Talungon" trees which was found plenty in the place many years ago.

Past heads were Castil Firmeza, Andres Venturanza, Tomas Venturanza (1942-1946), Donato Fariolan (1946-1947), Adoracion Fariolan (1948-1951), Bonifacio Naid (1952-1955), Quintin Mupada (1956-1963), Tomas Nabua (1964-1967). Since 1968 this place has been headed by Gaudencio Naragdag and was followed by Rodolfo Naragdag and Antonio Nalang. In 1987-1997 this place has been headed by Ruperto Mupada. 1997-2002 has been headed by Nenita Mordece and SK Chairman Maryrose Mupada and followed by Veronica Mupada as Punong Barangay and Maricel Mupada as SK chairperson.

Matalngon is celebrating its fiesta every February in honor of Nuestra Seņora de la Candelaria.
