Barangay Narat-an is about 8 kilometer distance from the poblacion proper. It is located at the Southern part of the municipality. The travel time in going to the barangay from the poblaicion is about 10 to 15 minutes ride via a Public Utility Jeepney or bus or tricycle. It is the last barangay of the municipality along the shoreline and the boundary line of Miag-ao and San Joaquin. It is passable for transportation in going to Iloilo and Antique.
Barangay Narat-an before is the barangay purok of San Rafael, the adjacent barangay wherein during the celebration of their Annual Barangay Fiesta in honor of its patron saint Seņor San Rafael, the people of Barangay Narat-an separated from Barangay San Rafael to have its own patronal fiesta in honor of Nuestra Seņora de Guia in 1952.
Barangay Narat-an celebrated its fiesta every second Saturday in the month of December. According to some old folks in the barangay, the name came from Narra tree because before the Spanish regime, there were so many narra trees growing in the place. When Spaniards came to the place and saw big narra trees abundantly growing, they called the barangay as Narat-an which came from the tree declared as the national tree of our country.
