Barangay Tabunacan was established in 1882 when Capitan Sebastian Mondragon was town head. A part of Barangay Damilisan in earlier time, it was administered by Pacifico Nebreja, Teniente Encargado until it became a separate barrio.
Tabunacan got its name from Tabun-ak plant once plentiful in the place.
Past heads were Teniente Telesforo Fibles, Alejandro Moncal, Benito Mondragon, Juan Misola, Florentino Narida, Autonomo Niango, Naval Mondragon, Nicolas Misola (1948-1951), Pablo Libo-on (1964-1967), Pedro Moncal (1968-1971), Federico Nadanza (1972-1979), Rufino Ladera (1980-1986), Vicente Moncal (1987-1990). The present head is Punong Barangay Fernando Libo-on Sr.
For many years, Tabunacan was a pastoral charge of Barangay Damilisan. However, through the efforts of Nicolas Misola and Soledad Armada who donated a lot and a portion was donated by Gaudencio Moncal for a chapel and the image of St. Vincent Ferrer which was donated by Lourdes Paguntalan through the solicitation of Gaudencio Moncal. Barangay Tabunacan has its barangay fiesta in April 23, 1960. Since then up to the present our barangay fiesta has been observed happily.
This place is the seat of Miag-ao West Central Elementary School (MWCES) and Palaca-Damilisan National High School (PDNHS). it is 44 kilometers away from Iloilo City and locate along the highway with fishing and farming as the occupation of its residents besides chocolate and peanut candy making as its cottage industries. This barangay is progressing with some professional and seamen contributing to the quality life. It has 96 households with 521 total population, have a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere.
